Field notesNo. 001 / Wattson

Getting acquainted.

A few small gestures. A surprising amount of personality.

  1. Move your pointer

    An attentive little fellow.

The arms bend. The shade turns. Wherever your train of thought goes, Wattson follows.

After dark, a little pool of light comes along too.

  2. Single tap

    A tap. A thought.

A springy nod, a small metallic tap, and whatever is on his mind. A different little thought each time.

Tap a few times in a row. He has opinions about that.

  3. Double tap

    Even lamps clock off.

One little switch, and the light goes out. Wattson settles down for a break. Double tap again when you need the company.

No waiting around. The switch responds straight away.

In the daylight
“The sun has this shift covered.”

Mostly here for company. Not entirely sure what his job is.

After hours
“I can hold the light. You do the thinking.”

A warm glow, a quiet desk, and the occasional late-night thought.

One bulb. Please be gentle.

Hold the lamp down and curiosity becomes a slightly expensive habit.

  1. 0.5 sSecond thoughts.A tremble. A plea to reconsider. You can still let go.
  2. 2 sThere it goes. The filament snaps. The light is out.
  3. Every 2.7 sA little regret.A few sparks and a tiny electrical crackle.

Good to know A sleeping lamp is safe. A broken one needs a page refresh. A fresh page, a fresh filament.

For the keyboard crowd.
